Tucked inside the Ocala National Forest, Salt Springs Village offers 55+ residents a relaxed slice of “Old Florida.” Just down the road, Salt Springs Recreation Area invites you to swim or snorkel in crystal-clear mineral springs, paddle a kayak down Salt Springs Run, or picnic beneath shady oaks and palms. Anglers head to nearby Lake George, Florida’s second-largest lake, while walkers and birders enjoy the Bear Swamp Trail and a stretch of the Florida National Scenic Trail, where deer and wild turkey are common sights. Everyday needs are close to home, with a grocery store, post office, bait and tackle shops, and casual local spots like Odd Todd’s and Square Meal for a bite with neighbors. For more, Ocala’s shopping, dining, and medical centers, plus the glass-bottom boats at Silver Springs State Park, are about 35 miles west. Daytona’s beaches are about 60 miles east.
