In real estate the mantra is location, location, location. At Dataw we’re thrilled with our location and our neighbors. Our hometown Beaufort, SC has just been named by Coastal Living Magazine the number one Happiest Seaside Towns in America. This was determined by first the reader nominations, plus all the past places Coastal Living lauded as Dream Towns. From there, they looked at the rank on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of sunny days, healthiness of beaches, commute times, crime ratings, walkability, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, geographic diversity, and our editors' assessment of each town's "coastal vibe." The result: an all-star list for 2013. We’re proud to be given the top honors and we agree that this is truly a very happy place to live.
The second newsworthy event in Beaufort is our wonderful American Idol contestant Candace Glover. She comes from Saint Helena Island which is only about 2 miles from Dataw Island. We’re so proud of our hometown girl and her success.
Great home values, magnificent golf, tennis, pools, fitness center, clubhouse, great neighbors and the happiest Seaside Town America. Well, it doesn’t get any better than this.
The following is what Coastal Living says about the town of Beaufort…
Beaufort sits on Port Royal Island, in a verdant curve of the Intracoastal Waterway in the heart of the Sea Islands, as it has for a little more than 300 years (making it the second-oldest city in South Carolina). It is glorious strolling here; much of the architecture remains intact, thanks in large part to the Historic Beaufort Foundation (which puts on a stunning Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens every October).
Beyond being an elegant and welcoming urban center of 12,534 locals, Beaufort is also a springboard for exploring natural environs, including Hunting Island, a 5,000-acre state park with more than three miles of pristine beach known as among the most sublime in the state. And then, as any local will tell you, there's the shrimp. And the sweet tea. And the mandevilla-perfumed breezes that imbue the slowed pace of Lowcountry life. All of it, in Beaufort.
New Membership Program Approved
On Thursday, March 21st the membership at Dataw Island Club overwhelmingly approved a new membership program for the Club.
This program came as the result of months of work from a task force made up of Club members. The new membership structure removes the many categories of membership by combining them all into one designated club membership.
Each resident member has access to the dining and meeting facilities, fitness and activity center, indoor and outdoor pools and golf practice facilities. If a member wants additional use of Club amenities such as golf, tennis and croquet, they have the ability to purchase packages that match their individual needs. For instance golf can be purchased at unlimited play, one, two or three month packages or 10, 20, 30 or 40 round packages. Tennis can also be purchased as an unlimited package or a one, two or three month package or a 10 or 20 court time package. Likewise, croquet can be purchased in several package formats.
“These options are wonderful as they are so flexible that a member can choose a membership structure that is tailored specifically for their family,” said David Warren, Director of Marketing. “This is unique as members can now settle on a membership program which is distinctively designed for them.”
This new membership option program is also beneficial to a member who would like to see if a Club amenity is right for them before making a full commitment to the sport. For example, members can try out a level less than unlimited golf and see if they enjoy golfing. If they do, they can simply add more golf to their membership package.

The Island Life
Located outside of Beaufort, SC, there’s a historic coastal Carolina haven, a place where the fertile soil that hosted indigo and cotton on an antebellum plantation is still home to a rich experience. This haven is Dataw Island. Defined by the Intracoastal Waterway, lagoons and lush marshes and near the Atlantic Ocean, the waterways helped shape the island’s history and an active lifestyle of contemporary luxury. There’s a fluid connection between residents and the Lowcountry landscape and between neighbors and friends. Because Dataw Island isn’t just where you live; it’s a way of life.
The Tee Box
Challenging by nature’s distinct design, Dataw Island’s two first-class golf courses follow the lay of the land. A sequence of dikes originally created to generate more land for plantation cotton fields is the guide for Tom Fazio’s Cotton Dike course.
Narrower than the Cotton Dike, the Arthur Hills Morgan River signature course demands accuracy at every bend, with a combination of land and water challenges inspire strokes of genius. The cart path weaves beneath the shades of the mature oaks that guard the Morgan River and the game follows the pace of the landscape.
The Gathering Places
Dataw’s thoughtful amenities keep the island’s community of friends connected. All lots and homes on Dataw’s 870 gated acres have a golf course, lagoon, or marsh view, as well as the option for deepwater properties. So whether you live in a villa or the dream home you designed, neighbors share social spaces and a love for the lowcountry. A state-of- the-art, 16,000 square foot Community Center invites residents to enjoy a morning aerobics class, a swim in the pool or unwind with a massage. Whether you take ballroom dancing, oil painting, conversational Spanish or join The Yacht Club, the Community Center is the heart of the island.
A full-service marina keeps you connected to the surrounding waterways. And when you’re not on the water, mild temperatures allow year-round tennis play on HAR-TRU® courts.
Experience Dataw! Come for a two-night, three-day stay with unlimited golf and tennis, and enjoy the Dataw difference.
