Southern Illinois sometimes called Little Egypt is the southern area of the state of Illinois in the United States of America. The region is sometimes called simply "Egypt," although the shortened form is not used as much as it once was. The southernmost part of Little Egypt is Cairo. The southern part of Illinois is geographically, culturally, and economically different from the rest of the state.
