"The Valley of the Sun," as the Phoenix metropolitan area is known, is home to more than four million residents, making it one of the largest and fastest-growing areas of the country. And the nickname is well-chosen: Phoenix enjoys an average of 325 days of sunshine every year.
Summers can be very hot, as you would expect for a desert community; but from November through April the climate is sunny and the temperatures mild. Golf courses abound, along with spas, world-class restaurants, and art galleries (Scottsdale, in particular, has one of the largest populations of artists in the United States).
The metropolitan area includes Maricopa County and large parts of Pinal County, and contains the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale, Tempe, and Scottsdale, along with other smaller communities.
