Eastern New Mexico is a region of the U.S. state of New Mexico. The region is sometimes termed the High Plains. It is generally located at an altitude of over 4,000 feet and is mostly characterized by relatively level terrain. Much like the Llano Estacado region of New Mexico, eastern New Mexico resembles West Texas in geography, culture and demographics. Its primary cities include Clovis, Portales, and Tucumcari. The region includes the counties of Curry, De Baca, Guadalupe, Lea, Quay, and Roosevelt. It is served by Eastern New Mexico University, a public, state-operated institution of higher learning.
